Piano Storage

River City Piano is a Sacramento piano mover that keeps pianos in climate-controlled storage, month to month. Each piano is stored covered, padded, and protected, for a few weeks or for years.

What piano storage costs

Piano storage is $100 a month, plus piano moving fees. The rate is the same for a grand, a baby grand, or an upright, and the same for short-term and long-term storage. The moving fees cover the pickup and the return delivery. They are quoted separately because they depend on the type of piano, the distance, and any stairs.

How it works

  1. Call or text 916-837-3630 with the type of piano, the pickup city, and any stairs.
  2. We pick up your piano and move it into climate-controlled storage.
  3. The piano stays covered and padded for as long as you need.
  4. When you want it back, we deliver it to the same address or to a new one.

Piano moving and storage

We move every piano we store. We take grand pianos, baby grands, and uprights, and the piano goes from your home to storage and back with one piano mover.

Where we pick up and deliver

We pick up and deliver in Sacramento and the greater Sacramento area, including Elk Grove, Roseville, Folsom, and Davis, and across Northern California and the Bay Area.

For longer moves, we go north to Oregon, south to San Diego, and east to Arizona and Las Vegas. If you are moving between two of those places, we can pick up the piano at one end, store it, and deliver it to the other when you are ready.

When people store a piano

  • You are relocating and the new home is not ready
  • You are moving away for a while
  • You are remodeling or replacing floors
  • You inherited a piano and need time to decide where it goes

Can you keep a piano in a garage or a storage unit?

A piano is wood, felt, and steel strings under tension. Heat, cold, and swings in humidity can crack the soundboard, loosen the tuning pins, and make keys stick. A garage or a standard self-storage unit follows the weather, and Sacramento summers pass 100 degrees. Climate-controlled piano storage keeps it out of those swings.

Tuning after storage

A piano usually needs tuning after a move, once it has had a few weeks to settle in its room. River City Piano does not tune pianos. We refer you to the right tuner for your piano and location.
